Theory on Luke Skywalker for the new Star Wars, Force Awakens

OK, with all the hype over the latest full length trailer for the upcoming movie, I thought I would add my voice to those millions of voices before we are all 'silenced' on December 18, 2015.

So the latest I have been seeing is "Where is Luke?" and "Why hasn't he been seen in any of the trailers?"

My theory, and this begins "a long time ago," is that at the end of the Return of the Jedi, Luke parts company with the others going into seclusion to learn more of the Jedi ways from the ghosts who he saw at the end of the movie and to hide the remains of the Vader.  So he has been gone for a long time and Han and Leia have been consolidating the new government for this long time.  Remember that there were thousands of star systems in the Empire so there is a lot of work getting a government in place while fighting back pockets of the Empire still entrenched all over.

In the mean time, the First Order has rallied around a particularly strong leader and they have found or were founded by a group of force sensitives (Knights of Ren) that had turned to the dark side, worshiping Darth Vader and his cause. They know that they must have a token of Vader or the old Empire (including the Emperor) to solidify their claim to rule and unite the rest of the Empire's resistance against the original rebel's government.  They search out Vader's resting place and find Luke Skywalker guarding the way.  The Knights of Ren then seek to 'convert' Skywalker to their cause.

Meanwhile, Han and Leia hear of this group and begin searching for Luke, retracing their his last known sighting to a planet where, unbeknownst to anyone, Luke's 'daughter' is.

The race is then on.
